Biodynamics

I am going to use the Stella Nautra Biodynamic Calendar to plant the vegetables in people’s kitchen gardens. Biodynamic calendars use the moon and constellations to determine the best days to plant, harvest, and handle plants. Days are identified as being fruit, leaf, root, or flower days.

A way to introduce thinking about fruit, leaf, root, and flower days is imagining how the moon affects the ocean tides on earth. Like wise the moon and planets affect where the water or energy is in a plant and will affect its growth from a tiny seed.

Biodynamics has interesting principles in composting and in thinking of a farm as an organism. For the past two years I have gone to the Biodynamic Conference in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee at Jeff Poppin’s farm. Jeff Poppin is also known as The Barefoot Farmer; see his farm and CSA website here: http://www.barefootfarmer.com

The picture of me and friends is at the Biodynamic conference this year at Jeff’s farm.
